About Vincent van Gogh

Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) was a Dutch post-Impressionist painter, renowned as one of the most famous and influential figures in Western art history.

• Created approximately 2,100 artworks, including around 860 oil paintings.
• Most of his masterpieces were created during the final two years of his life.
• Despite his brilliance, he was not commercially successful and tragically passed away at the age of 37 after enduring years of mental illness and poverty.

The Artwork: Starry Night Over the Rhône

• Painted in 1888 at a location on the bank of the Rhône, just a short walk from the Yellow House on the Place Lamartine, where Van Gogh resided at the time.
• Original French title: La Nuit étoilée.
